2015 EN

At the 38th General Conference of UNESCO, the 195 Member States ratify the creation of a new programme: the International Geosciences Programme, of which Geoparks are a part. The Geopark concept, which has always been supported by UNESCO, is now a full UNESCO programme.

2004 EN

The Global Geoparks Network was established and the first International Geoparks Conference was held in June in Beijing.

2000 EN

The Haute-Provence Geopark is the first Geopark created in the world, along with Lesvos (Greece), Vulkaneifel (Germany) and Maestrazgo (Spain). The European Geoparks network was launched that same year.

1996 EN

International Congress of Geological Sciences in Beijing under the aegis of UNESCO, where Guy Martini, Director of the Haute-Provence Geological Reserve, meets for the first time with Nikolas Zouros, his counterpart from the Petrified Forest of Lesvos (Greece). They share the same ambition of protecting and enhancing a rural area through its geological heritage.

1991 EN

The 1st International Symposium on Geological Heritage in Digne-les-Bains gave birth to the first official text, establishing geology as a true guarantor of the earth's memory for current citizens and future generations.

1986 EN

The first lawsuit for the looting of a fossiliferous site reinforces the collective awareness of the need to protect local and common heritage: the geological heritage. The term "geological heritage" is born.

administré au travers d’une Entente Intercommunale avec la Communauté de Communes du Sisteronais-Buëch
et financé par la région Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur et le Conseil Départemental de Haute-Provence.
