For more than 300 million years, tectonic plate movements, erosion, climatic phenomena and man have shaped the landscapes between the mountains and the Mediterranean that characterize the Alpes de Haute-Provence.

The Geopartners are a group of local players who share universal values and are linked to the region’s heritage. Whether they’re accommodation providers, producers, mountain guides or cultural site managers, they’re all involved in promoting the Geopark to tourists and local residents alike. In February, every Wednesday in the media libraries

Bring your rocks!
Accompanied by a Geopark mediator, come and identify the pebble you’ve brought along. Discover one of the many facets of the geologist’s profession, and learn more about the region’s geological heritage by using the tools of the trade.

  • Wednesday, February 4, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Les Mées media library: special collector’s workshop
  • Wednesday, February 11, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Mallemoisson library
  • Wednesday, February 18, 2-4pm, Champtercier library
  • Wednesday, February 25, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Seyne-les-Alpes media library

The Haute-Provence Geopark has joined forces with the Réserve Naturelle Nationale Géologique de Haute-Provence and the Provence Alpes Agglomération media library network to offer you this free event in the media libraries.

New facilities on the Rocher de Neuf Heures in Digne-les-Bains

After a fortnight’s work, the project is nearing completion for the creation of a panoramic viewpoint at the summit of the Rocher de Neuf Heures, as well as a rest and interpretation terrace halfway along the access path. Given the site’s difficult access, all materials were transported by helicopter. Among the items transported: a life-size chamois silhouette, and above all, a 2.5-metre metal “Étoile de Saint-Vincent”, created for the 1954 Corso by Camille Roux and donated by his son Emmanuel. Bois Noir lookout inauguration

Friday September 26, 2025 saw the inauguration of the Bois Noir lookout on the Turriers commune. Perched at 1340m above sea level on a natural promontory, this viewpoint offers spectacular 360° views over the Turriers basin, the southern Pre-Alps and the Écrins massif. This new site, located in the very north of the Haute-Provence Geopark territory, completes the network of developed sites along the Hautes-Terres thematic route, which from Sisteron offers visitors a chance to discover unspoilt nature and striking landscapes of varied rock formations, the result of 200 million years of geological history. Butterfly Garden tour cancelled

The guided tour of the Jardin des Papillons will be exceptionally cancelled on Friday April 18 due to the preparation of a planting site. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. The public can enjoy tours of the Butterfly Garden throughout the Promenade Museum’s opening season, Monday to Friday at 10:30 am.
