The landscapes of the Haute-Provence Geopark are a source of inspiration for many internationally renowned artists. Among them, Andy Goldsworthy holds a special place.
Since 2000, artists at the Haute-Provence Geopark, with the support of CAIRN center d’art, have been creating works that reveal the area’s specific natural, historical, cultural and social features. These works constitute a contemporary heritage that links artistic creation, memory and local development.
La sentinelle d’Authon stands on the edge of the departmental road, marking one of the Geopark’s gateways. Here, marlstone forms a landscape of dark hills, poetic and fragile, witness to the ancient presence of the sea. Andy Goldsworthy has created an original work of art, composed of stones assembled using dry-stone construction techniques.
