The La Javie ecomuseum presents the life of the village and the Haute Bléone in days gone by, and offers a real journey back in time through 8 themed exhibitions. Free admission.
For over twenty years, the La Javie Autrefois association has been working to reconstruct the history and ancestral lifestyles of the Haute-Bléone region. Working in close collaboration with local residents, a team of volunteers has built up a rich and lively site. Hundreds of objects, photographs, documents and testimonials are on display in the former presbytery in the heart of the village. A reconstructed grocer’s store, classroom, kitchen, linen room and numerous farming and craft tools are on display. Note that the shepherd’s hall is a stopover (N°17) on the Routo, an itinerary that follows the ancient transhumance routes from La Crau to the Italian pastures. Open by appointment and free admission. A hike to the Chapelle Notre-Dame and the communal washhouse (La Bugade exhibition) are also available after the visit (30min).
