Invited by Joan Fontcuberta, discover Les hydropithèques, half-animal, half-human, whose skeletons were found in the 1950s on the current territory of the Haute-Provence Geopark…
The works of artist Joan Fontcuberta offer a critical analysis of information and communication techniques, inviting us to question ourselves. La sirène du Bès is part of the ensemble Les hydropithèques, which presents perfectly credible fake fossils, with their entire history and that of their supposed discovery by Abbé Fontana in the 1950s. This astonishing paleontological discovery would turn the theory of evolution on its head!
You can discover the skeletons at five Haute-Provence Geopark sites: Le solitaire (Musée-Promenade, Digne), Les amoureux (la Robine sur Galabre), La Sainte Famille (Barles), Troupeau d’Hydropithèques (Prads Haute-Bléone) and Scène de crime (also Prads).
This work is part of VIAPAC – Route de l’art contemporain, which links the towns of Digne-les-Bains, France, and Caraglio, Italy, through the works of twelve contemporary artists.
