Discover the history of lavender growing around Digne-les-Bains and the Haute-Provence Geopark, and immerse yourself in a world of scents.
This museum presents the history of lavender growing in and around Digne-les-Bains, the historic lavender capital, from 1900 to the present day. As you enter, you’ll become part of the very identity of this rural region. With sound and light, you’ll discover whole swathes of local memory, life stories and legends surrounding lavender and its essence. You’ll learn how, from hand-picked, family-run lavender, the region has become France’s leading producer. All you’ll want to do is take a stroll through the surrounding blue fields, or discover the wild lavender groves, known as “baïassières”, in the high meadows and moors. Free lavender distillation demonstrations in July and August.
