Les Tourniquets d’Astoin

About

Between the Col des Sagnes and Bayons, this picturesque route takes you through the stunning scenery of two emblematic valleys of the Haute-Provence Geopark.

Tourniquets are the name given to a series of twists and turns in the route départementale n°1 as it crosses the rocky barrier (Jurassic limestone) that closes off the Sasse basin to the north. The Ponts et Chaussées engineers vied with each other in imagination, science and talent to create this road which, as they say in Provence, will give you… the dizziness! Integrated into one of the Geopark’s discovery routes (Hautes Terres), it offers a real change of scenery, from the Turriers basin and the magnificent Col des Sagnes to the Bayons valley, with its forests and mountain pastures. You can also reach Seyne and the Vallée de la Blanche via the Col des Garcinets. Astoin is a hamlet in the Bayons commune. This road has replaced the mule track on the other bank of the Eau Amère torrent, which predates it.
