Dating back to the 13th century, the Tour de Melve was once part of a defensive system linking 21 castles and watchtowers in the Hautes-Terres de Provence region. It is a stopover on the Hautes-Terres route of the Haute-Provence Geopark.
The tower is located at an altitude of 900 m, on a steep slope that provided natural protection and a visual link with other sites. The remains still in place reveal a rectangular keep measuring around 70 m², which was extended by a vast platform. Today, only the east and south sides have been preserved (in part) and are still representative of the building. Despite their current state, three levels are still visible. They were once separated by floors, and the second floor was covered by a vault that has now collapsed. The thickness of the walls (1.40 m) suggests that the tower must have been fifteen metres high. Its defensive function is confirmed by the presence of archways on the upper floor. From Melve, you can explore and admire the landscapes of the Haute-Provence Geopark.
