Panorama of the Mélan mountain

About

The Mélan mountain peaks at 1,708 meters above sea level with the Pic de Cluchette. It closes off the Duyes valley to the north and heralds the Monges massif, at the heart of the Haute Provence Geopark.

The Mélan mountain provides an excellent vantage point for observing the Durance valley and the mountains of Provence. To the west, the mountain of Lure stands out, followed by Mont Ventoux. To the south, following the Durance valley, you’ll see the Pénitents des Mées and the distant Sainte-Victoire. To the north, the ridges of the Dévoluy massif stand out against the sky.
Below, you’ll see the Route du Temps – one of the five discovery routes of the Haute-Provence Geopark, heading towards Sisteron or Saint-Geniez.
You can also pay particular attention to the sounds of the forest. Chamois and mouflons have made the surrounding undergrowth their own. A pair of golden eagles have found their domain here, competing for the sky with gliders whose wings seem to skim the mountain crest. The site is home to a wealth of biodiversity.
