Saint-Armand chapel

About

From the perched village of Clamensane, the hike to the Saint-Amand chapel promises superb views over one of the Haute Provence Geopark’s emblematic valleys.

The Saint-Amand chapel stands on an ancient site overlooking the Sasse valley. The ridge on which it was built once marked the boundary between the Roman provinces, and later the boundary between the archdioceses of Aix and Embrun. It is therefore both possible and likely that the Saint-Amand site was once a border guard post, later Christianized.
You can reach it from the charming village of Clamensane and enjoy a breathtaking view of the valley and its ancient orchards, landscapes and geology. The surrounding area also boasts one of the finest stands of thurifer juniper in the Alpes de Haute-Provence.
