The Lagremuse ruins

About

The ruined hamlet overlooks the Bléone valley, offering panoramic views. At its foot, a century-old olive grove adds to its charm.

Lagremuse’s ruins proudly stand against the relentless onslaught of time. The site still bears witness to its past defensive vocation. You can still make out parts of the walls of the old fortified castle, built on three rocks (Valensole pudding), and the adjoining Sainte-Agathe chapel.
Its name comes from the little grey Provencal lizards that like to bask in the sun. The sunshine here is exceptional, and the view stretches from the Estrop massif to the Lure mountains.
Lagremuse did not survive the rural exodus that raged throughout the 19th century. A few stone walls and vines remain from the old terraced gardens below. The route through the restored olive groves is very pleasant.
