The village of Saint-Geniez

About

At the heart of the Haute-Provence Geopark, the village of Saint-Geniez is set in a remarkable natural setting, rich in heritage.

The village, situated at an altitude of 1,116 m, backs onto the Gouras and Trainon massifs and is protected by the Mélan mountain (1,705 m). The commune is part of an agricultural, forestry and rural landscape that inspires great tranquillity. The village’s rich geological heritage allows visitors to observe a wide range of phenomena: the movements of the Earth, the formation of rocks and mountains, and the rugged topography with its numerous ravines, gorges and narrow valleys.
The village offers a stunning panorama from its square and alleyways, like a reassuring backdrop. Take a leisurely stroll along its narrow streets, starting at the fountain or the church, and admire some of the old gates, old buildings and the old wash-house. Outside, you’ll discover the town’s incredible historical heritage: the chapel and crypt of Dromon, dating from the early Middle Ages, and the incredible Pierre-écrite.
