Emma Dusong

After one year of work in residency at the CAIRN Centre d'art, the French artiste, Emma Dusong proposed us a visual and sound itinerary in three areas quarters of the town of Digne-les-Bains. She relates here, three of these pieces of work. The exhibition goes until the 18th of September 2016.

Many traditional skills are still bing practiced on the UNESO Géoparc de Haute-Provence . The Stars of St. Vincent jewelry making dates back to the nineteenth century. It was forgotten for a few years but came back in force today.

It's an important part of the Géoparc de Haute-Provence's intangible heritage, of our culture and our traditions. The folk band Li Tradaire has understood that. The six members of this band are defending this heritage, and more than that, they are having fun in the process !

Olive tree shaft in Estoublon.
The inhabitants of te Géoparc de Haute-Provence had the opportunity to train and learn about the Olive tree shaft, as part of municipality of Estoublon initiative. Over 20 roducers and individuals, attended and listened to Alex Siciliano of the olive farmer group from Haute-Provence and Luberon.

For the 10th week of the Alternatives to Pesticides, the HELP Association and the village of La Motte Du Caire, north of Haute Provence Geopark, organized a day on the culture of the apple, an opportunity to review the production process of this fruit in Upper Durance.

Napoleon Road 200 years
The Geopark has a history spanning more than 300 million years. Its story came across ichthyosaurs, ammonites ... and Napoleon Bonaparte! Indeed, the route taken by the Emperor on his journey between Elba and Paris, runs through the towns of Haute-Provence Geopark.

Alexandra David-Neel, the great explorer, settled in Digne les Bains, after her adventures in Asia ... She walked and climbed all the mountains in the area!

 

herman de vries exhibition at the CAIRN

This dutch artist, herman de vries regularly work on the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence, since 1999 in a deep cooperation with the  CAIRN and the Musée Gassendi. The exhibition "à mes pieds" shows a part of his work on the territory. 

The eco-museum "La Javie Autrefois"

What was life like, in century ago, in our territory ? Since 1998, La Javie museum volunteers help inhabitants and tourists to find answers to this question. 

Mission of revalidation for the label UNESCO Géoparc of Haute-Provence

Between the 23th and the 26th of July, two UNESCO experts Tran Tan Van et Hartmut Escher discover the Geopark of Haute-Provence territory, for the visit for Geopark label revalidation. For them, and all the people who participated to this mission, here is a video redrawing these 4 days. 

 

A new Geopark label

Businessmen, restaurants and hotels managers, producers,signed an agreement with the Haute-Provence Geopark, in order to obtain a Geopark quality label. The purpuse is to propose to tourists a local production of quality, to assist d'assister to products production and valuation, and to participate to to the increasement of the global quality tourist offer on the Geopark of Haute-Provence territory.

 

The "Corso de la Lavande"

This is the 69th "Corso de la Lavande" edition ! The occasion to take stock of the story of this Digne tradition, representative of the intangible heritathe of the Geopark of Haute-Provence.

 

 

What is a Geopark ?The school interventions. 

During 2015 scholard year, Geopark of Haute-Provence educational team went in schools for the territory, to talk about the UNESCO Geopark and make sure kids and parents discover and live this territory. 

 

 

The Lavender Fair and Geoparks

From the 20th, to the 24th of August, Digne-les-Bains city center has been very animated thanks to the Lavender Fair, and its exhibitors. The UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence had its stand, as it was for the guest of honnor the M'Goun Geopark, located in Marocco. 

 

 

The peddler : a ghost job

The peddler job disappeared around 100 years ago. But it was really common in moutains areas, as it is in the Geopark of Haute-Provence. Jean-Pierre Coste was one of them. His grand son, Roger Coste, is doing tours on schools and retirement homes to talk about his grand father, and his disappeared job ...

 

 

The Walking Art in the Geopark

We probably noticed, if you wander a little bit on the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence territory. On a rock, inside an old building, on a moutain ... Contemporary Art is everywhere.Around 100 artworks are distributed on the territory.

 

 

Andy Goldsworthy "Art refuges"

It's here, in the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence, that we can find the biggest concentration of Andy Goldsworthy artworks. This artist, worldwide known, works on our territory since the 90s, with the "Art Refuge" project.

L'Art d'Oise, restaurant with the Geopark label - Les petits chèvres, a producer, also labelised.

The restaurant L'Art d'Oise, in Champtercier, has been one of the first to obtain the label Geopark oh Haute-Provence. The chef, Frédéric Payan,works with a lot of local producers. As Gaël Bernard, goats breeder at Mirabeau. He also is labelised Geopark. 

 

 

Plantes Compagnes, products with the Geopark label

In order to obtain the Geopark label, it needs to use, between other things, to use local ressources and to respect the environment. This is why, naturaly, Marie Buatois products, Plantes Compagnes, received the label few months ago. Discover the activity of this Nature lover... 

 

Hike on la Barre des Dourbes

Get back on the hike organised by the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence, on the Barre des Dourbes,on the occasion of the "Rando des 3 Vallées". 

 

 

Marcos Avila Forero exhibition at the CAIRN

The CAIRN Digne-les-Bains Art Centerhosts a new exhibition "Paisajes Subversivos"  from Marcos Avila Forero. Six artworks from the colombian artist are presented, one of them has been realised in the Poil village, close to Majastres.

 

 

The Red Gold from the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence

Asia and Middle East don't have the exclusivity of the red gold : the saffron.We can also find it in Provence, and more specifically on the UNESCO Geopark of Haute-Provence. Meet two saffron producers, labeled Geopark.

 

Fruits d'Avenir

The association "Fruits d'Avenir" make fruit juices from abandoned fruits, which were usually roting on the fields. An environmental approach, against wasting, valued by the Geopark of Haute-Provence, thanks to its label. 

 

The Mule House

The Mule House, a Geopark of Haute-Provence partner establishement, localised in Seyne-les-Alpes, presents ths animal history.
