An Inter-Municipal Joint-Initiative

Since January 2018, the Haute-Provence UNESCO Global Geopark has been governed and managed by the Inter-Municipal Council of the Provence-Alps Metropolitan Area.
However, the territory covered by the UNESCO Geopark is made up of 60 Municipal Districts, spread over two Inter-Municipal bodies:
the Inter-Municipal Council of the Provence-Alps Metropolitan Area
the Inter-Municipal Council of the Sisteronais-Buëch District Area

An Inter-Municipal Joint-Agreement

To ensure the efficient and effective management, development and promotion of the Haute-Provence UNESCO Global Geopark, on October 26th, 2018, Bernard Teyssier (President of the Conference of the Inter-Municipal Agreement), Patricia Granet-Brunello (President of the Inter-Municipal Council of the Provence-Alps Metropolitan Area) and Daniel Spagnou (President of Inter-Municipal Council of the Sisteronais-Buëch District Area) signed an Inter-Municipal Joint-Agreement
linking both Inter-Municipal Councils.

This agreement opens a new era for the Haute-Provence UNESCO Global Geopark, which can now take its proper place in the development and reputation of the territories. In terms of investment, as well as operations, the Inter-Municipal Joint-Agreement should enable the optimisation of the management, development and promotion of tourist and cultural sites, tourist discovery routes as well as all tourist and cultural products/services of the Haute-Provence UNESCO Global Geopark, by promoting coherent and coordinated actions as well as facilitating the administrative management of operations on a territorial scale.

As joint-initiative leader and sole contracting and executive authority, the Inter-Municipal Council of the Provence-Alps Metropolitan Area is responsible for implementing the operating and investment budgets of the Haute-Provence UNESCO Global Geopark. Two projects are already underway for the two Inter-Municipal bodies : the renewal of the label by UNESCO (in 2019) and the extension of its territory.
