Water, the shaper of landscapes

5 €/student
2h

By observing the landscape, students distinguish the presence of different types of rock. They continue their analysis with manipulations to verify the different behavior of these materials in the face of the erosive action of surface water, responsible for the evolution of the landscape from the cliffs to the braided riverbed.
We evoke the pathways of water at depth, at the origin of spring waters with different compositions and tastes, as everyone can see. The St Benoît spring also illustrates the phenomena of dissolution-recrystallization (in the open air) with tuff cascades (coupling of lithosphere, biosphere and hydrosphere).
This theme is well suited to middle-school expectations, particularly the 5th grade curriculum.

Interaction between living organisms and the characteristics of the environment.

  • Today’s landscape is shaped by the action of water on rock.
  • Man’s action in his geological environment influences the evolution of landscapes.
  • Man can prevent certain natural disasters by limiting erosion.
